Hall Projects
The Hall is a 1960s building serving a 120-year-old organization, and there is always something to improve. This page lists what members have told us matters most and what community support has already made possible. To help fund a project, see Donate.
What members asked for
In our 2026 member survey we described nine hoped-for improvements and asked which to prioritize. Here they are in the order members ranked them.
New exterior doors
The main doors — especially the two sets of double doors at the front — have large gaps and don't seal, so the Hall loses heat all winter. New, properly sealed doors are the next step in our energy-efficiency work after the 2025 heat pump and solar installations. Learn more about Energize the Hall
Bathroom improvements
The bathroom floors need replacing, and both rooms need better ventilation and exhaust fans. We also plan layout changes that will make the facilities easier to use, especially during large events.
Indoor air quality
The Hall has no air circulation or filtration system. CO₂ builds up during large gatherings, and we have no protection during wildfire smoke or a future viral outbreak. A ventilation and filtration system would address all three.
Better lighting in the main Hall
The overhead lights are bare, stark and unflattering. We want softer, warmer, more diffuse light that suits everything from a board meeting to a wedding.
Emergency preparedness
Our 2025 solar-plus-battery system lets the Hall provide power during outages, but we have no defined disaster plan and no emergency supplies. The goal is a plan, a basic stock of supplies, storage for them, and additional battery capacity so the Hall can serve as a community refuge during extended outages.
Refinish hardwood floors
The main-hall floors are scuffed and well worn. Sanding and refinishing would restore them.
Parking lot improvements
The lot has cracks and missing sections. We need to explore options, from patching to full repaving.
Better table and chair storage
The current racks are unsightly and there is nowhere to put them out of sight when the Hall is set up for an event.
Landscaping
The Hall grounds are one of the most visible features in Clinton. With grant help from the Whidbey Island Garden Tour we have been expanding plantings along Highway 525; there is more to do toward beautiful, water-smart, sustainable landscaping.

What community support has already made possible
Solar & Battery Backup (2025)
As we move to 'electrify' the Hall, we plan to install solar in order to create our own local, clean power. Learn more
New Hot Water Heater (2025)
Our older hot water heater is failing. We have plans to replace with a new, more-efficient heat pump hot water heater. As a part of our Energize The Hall campaign, this will move us off propane and onto cleaner electricity. We've identified funding for this project.
Heat Pump Heating & Cooling System (2025)
The Hall currently has no air-conditioning for the warmer summer months. We are also working to fully 'electrify' the Hall to improve energy efficiency and to use cleaner energy. Learn more about our new system...
Interior updates (2024)
In part to help prepare for our new heat pump mini split in the main hall, and also to improve aesthetics and usability of the space, we replaced an interior wall on the south end of the main hall. We gained better storage and organization, and brightened up the Hall with this work. Learn more about this project here...
New Highway Sign (2024)
The Hall’s old sign out along the highway was not in great shape. It served the Hall well for many years, but needed serious updates both structurally and functionally. We struggled for years with the railings that keep the letters up. The lighting needed an upgrade. The metal casing was falling apart. The information at the top of the sign needed to be updated. We patched and repaired as best we could, but the time had finally come to replace the sign. Learn more about this project here...
New Metal Roof (2021)
Thanks to generous financial support from our community, a new metal roof was installed in 2021, replacing multiple layers of asphalt shingles that had been failing & leaking for years. Learn more about the new roof here...
New Septic System (2019)
After a sudden failure of the Hall's old septic system, the Clinton community came together to raise the funds necessary to install a new system.
